Saturday Showcase - Adding Colour to Tim Holtz Ideaology Botanical Collage Paper

Hi everyone and welcome! It's Jenny Marples here with a new tutorial for you as part of the Frilly and Funkie Saturday Showcase series - this is where we shine a spotlight on a particular product or range stocked by The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Today I have a new video tutorial to share with you sharing tips and techniques for using Distress Paints to colour the new Tim Holtz Ideaology Botanical Collage Paper.

Once you've painted your Collage Paper it's ready for applying to a multitude of surfaces including Tim's Paper Stash, Baseboards, Frames, Vignette Boxes, Ephemera and so much more. For today's card I tore out a few of the images to layer over a patchwork of patterned paper from the Etcetera Paper Stash collection. The butterfly in the centre of the card came from Tim  Holtz Botanical Layers pack with one of the new Ideaology Adornments, Butterflies added over the top. The sentiment came from the Small Talk Stickers pack and the decorative metal corners from the Vignette Accents set.

Having seen how easy it is to colour Tim Holtz Botanical Collage Paper I hope you feel inspired to give it a go and cover your projects with beautiful flowers. There are links below to the products used to create the card and if you have any questions please let me know in the comments box.

Thank you for joining me for today's Saturday Showcase. Another member of the team will be back next Saturday to share a new tutorial. In the meantime a quick reminder that there's still time to enter the current Frilly and Funkie challenge 'Dare to Resist'.

Time to go get creative!

Dare to Resist

Happy Valentine's Day dear readers! Autumn with you today as the Frilly side of the team presents our inspiration for this challenge. I've chosen the theme Dare to Resist. For the next two weeks, as we break away from our Valentine creations, we'd love to see you incorporate a favorite resist technique in your vintage or shabby chic project. There are so many options, perhaps you will try something new. Whether it be gesso resist, Vaseline resist, alcohol resist, embossing resist, or watercolor resist, we dare you to resist!

The winner will earn the chance of a Guest DT spot here at Frilly and Funkie, and everyone who enters and follows the rules will go into the draw for the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. And there are Top 3 Badges for three further outstanding entries, chosen by the Design Team, because choosing just one winner is so hard!

The guidelines for entering are simple; create a new vintage or shabby chic project following the challenge theme, link it below to your post (not just your blog) and also include a link back to this challenge in your post. You can combine our challenge with up to 10 challenges (including this one) to be in with a chance of winning. If you are entering through a public forum (such as Instagram) you'll need to include the words Frilly and Funkie Challenge. Also, please be sure to turn off your Word Verification so our Design Team can leave comments on your blogs. Make sure you follow these rules as unfortunately we have had to eliminate entrants from the prize draws in the past.

This week we have some beautiful inspiration from the Funkie side of the Design Team (just click on each image for a closer look);

Sara Emily - sarascloset

Jenny Marples - Pushing The Right Buttons

Suzanne Czosek - Suzz's Stamping Spot

Challenge Winners - All You Need is LOVE!

Hi everyone! Today we announce our top picks from the 'All You Need is LOVE!' challenge. We had so many absolutely amazing entries to choose from - the Design Team were spoiled for choice when looking through your Valentine's Day creations. Thank you to all of you who took the time to join in the fun.

In the end we chose #28 Jess Madaglia who shared this fabulous set of Valentine's ATC's. We loved the imaginative idea of adding these 'love bugs' inside realistically embossed jars with such beautiful stick pins. Congratulations Jess on being our favourite and winning the opportunity to be a Guest Designer here at Frilly and Funkie for a future challenge. You will be contacted with all the details.

And now for the three winners of our Frilly and Funkie Top 3 Badges for this challenge; the choices this time were; #51 Rox Boyce (a VERY close second!) , #46 Stacy Zimmerman Hutchinson and #44 Wendy Baysa. Please email Linda at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for the codes for the Top 3 badges so that you can display them proudly on your blog.

And finally we have a randomly chosen lucky winner for the $25 gift certificate to The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Our congratulations this time go to #61 Cathy Potosky! Please email Linda at thefunkiejunkie@gmail.com for the gift certificate details.

A big thank you again from the Frilly and Funkie team to everyone who took part in this challenge and congratulations to all our winners. The current challenge, 'Dare to Resist' runs through Tuesday, February 27th and the Funkie side of the Design Team will be back here on Wednesday February 21st with some more inspiration for you. We hope to see you entering this time around so that you too can be in with a chance to win.

Have a great week everyone!

Saturday Showcase: Shabby Chic Card with Prima Lavender Collection

Hello, Friends! Welcome to another edition of Saturday Showcase.  I'm excited to be here, and hope you have some creative time set aside this weekend as I have a lovely shabby chic card tutorial using Prima's Lavender Collection.  Many of us love the look of richly patterned papers, but have been timid about cutting into them.  I think today's project will set us free to dig into our paper stashes and create beautiful things!

Isn't this collection just gorgeous?  And look at all the layers!  I'll show you exactly how to put this 5" x 7" top fold card together in the YouTube video below.

In addition to the supplies from the Funkie Junkie Boutique, you will need the following to make this card:

  • Two 8.5" x 11" sheets of plum colored cardstock
  • Two 8.5" x 11" sheets of lavender cardstock
  • Adhesive
  • Scoring Tool
  • Ribbons and buttons from your stash
  • Hot Glue Gun or other quick setting adhesive

So go grab a cuppa and a snack, notebook and pencil and we'll get this show started!
